A Small Destination Wedding In San Miguel De Allende, Central Mexico

It was the summer of 2021 and John and Jess were asking Caleb and I to grab margaritas with them to discuss their wedding plans. During our tequila fueled conversation they asked me if I didn’t want to just photograph their wedding, but also plan it! After planning my own wedding, and it being a huge success in my eyes, I decided I wanted to help other couples have a similar experience as me. So since May of 2021 I have been doing some small destination wedding planning for my couples who are having weddings of 25 or less. I was THRILLED when John and Jess asked about doing their wedding in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. Most people think Mexico and I swear they only think about Cabo, Cancun, or Tulum, and if you tell people the wedding is going to be in Central Mexico then they just think you are talking an endless empty desert in the middle of nowhere Mexico. That is not the case with San Miguel De Allende. It is a hidden gem that is about 4 hours north of Mexico City. It is a Spain settled city, so it hosts a ton of European colonial influence as well as Mexican Traditional. You truly walk around this city and it is like being in a stunning European city, but so much better.

Lucky for me, I had my own wedding in SMA so I had all the tips and tricks on who to hire, where to have your ceremony, where to have your cocktail hour, who to hire for catering, what to rent, etc. I was in my element planning this wedding. The couple had only their closest family and friends join from Kansas City, MO. Most had never heard of SMA before then and were in total awe when they saw the house. The couple rented Casa San Jose for everyone to stay for the week, and for their ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful, designed by one of my favorite florists in the area Florklore. It was all so unique to the couple, they had a close friend officiate the ceremony and their mothers gave readings. The reception was at the rooftop bar at Casa Hoyos called Bekeb. I can’t say enough nice things about how beautiful Casa Hoyos and Bekeb are. They are literally famous and have both been featured on Conde Nast Traveller, Arch Digest, and more. It is just the most gorgeous looking space.
